Become a Saffron Strand Volunteer

While Saffron Strand Center is under development, we are providing personal care and wellness services to homeless persons at our own event every 3 months and at events such as Project Homeless Connect and others. We need volunteers who are professional hair dressers, barbers, nail technicians, and massage therapists.

At the Saffron Strand Center, which is under development, we provide opportunities for members to build job and social skills through training and work in the Center and through stages of gainful employment in the community at large. See  Programs.

By contracting for work with local employers, Saffron Strand can place members in stages of employment which become progressively more independent: transitional employment, supported employment, and independent employment.

However, the success of Saffron Strand members in progressing through the stages of employment depends upon volunteers.

Our volunteers call upon their own education, job experience, and life skills to help individual members train for diverse types of employment outside the Saffron Strand Center. First, volunteers train in the new job themselves, then they mentor members in all aspects of the job.

Saffron Strand’s volunteers enable local employers to rely on Saffron Strand to meet their employment needs. Well-mentored members—and, in emergencies, the mentors themselves—are on-time, ready-to-work.

No special expertise is necessary to become a Saffron Strand volunteer. We can match your skills and preferences to our members in order to cover a wide range of employment opportunities. In a very personal and practical way, Saffron Strand volunteers demonstrate the responsibilities and benefits of community.

As a Saffron Strand volunteer, you’ll be making a positive difference in people’s lives and you’ll be contributing to the improvement of Contra Costa communities.
